The New Zealand College of Chinese Medicine is offering two new Diploma programmes for 2016. These offer students the opportunity to study Massage Therapy either with a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) perspective or with a Western Massage practise perspective. This opportunity is unique in New Zealand and offer students the latest qualifications in these fields
The College offers a Level 7 Diploma Course in Tuina (TCM Massage Therapy). This Diploma comprises two years of full time study, providing a mix of theory and clinical training and leading to qualifying as a Tuina Practitioner/ Therapist. The course offered includes the latest World Health Organisation recommendations ensuring that the Diploma meets the highest international requirements in training students to become practitioners in this aspect of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).
Tuina (TCM Massage Therapy) is a manual technique aimed at enhancing health and treating various clinical conditions. It is one of the most commonly used modalities in the practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine and is now practised worldwide. Tuina involves using bodywork (such as massage and acupressure) to stimulate the flow of vital energy throughout the body. Today, the field of treatment is wide ranging and also includes orthopedics, traumatology, cosmetology, rehabilitation, sports medicine, and general health care.
The qualification leads to employment opportunities both in New Zealand and internationally.
From February the College will also introduce the NZ Diploma in Wellness and Relaxation Massage Level 5. By doing so it will become the first provider in New Zealand to offer this new “NZ diploma” which is going to become the standard qualification offered by all NZQA approved massage training providers.
The course includes: Biomedical Science, Massage Clinical Science, and Clinical Practicum and will be offered at both the NZCCM Greenlane Campus and in Hastings through Lotus Holistic Centre. Graduates will obtain the latest qualification in this field and open the door to a wide range of jobs in home – based massage therapy, mobile clinics, retail malls or multi-disciplinary clinics or spa based massage therapy clinics.
Recruitment and Student Services Manager, Peter Coddington, commented that the introduction of these two diplomas gives prospective students the exciting and unique opportunity to obtain a professional qualification in either the most tried and tested effective “Eastern” massage therapy in the world or the very latest accredited “Western” massage Diploma in NZ within the one teaching institution.
